PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma. When re-injected into the skin, it is seen to stimulate growth of collagen and blood vessels, repair and regenerate damaged skin, as well as stimulate hair growth in dormant hair follicles.
PRP can treat hair loss in men and women from various causes – hormonal imbalance, medical conditions, autoimmune (alopecia areata), hereditary, medication induced. In instances where hair follicles have been destroyed (scar) or completely absent (advanced male-patterned balding), PRP may not be as effective. Few relative contraindications exist for PRP scalp treatments: active infection, blood thinners, poorly controlled blood sugars, skin cancer in area to be treated.
