Making a change

Rhinoplasty involves changing the appearance of the nose. It can often result in dramatic changes, not only in breathing but in your physical appearance.  Reasons to have a rhinoplasty range from difficulty breathing after nasal trauma, congenital malformations that may affect the function or appearance of the nose, or simply being born with a nose that doesn’t quite fit the balance and symmetry of your face.

What Can Rhinoplasty Address?

  • Large nose

  • Nasal hump

  • Drooping nasal tip

  • Bulbous tip

  • Large nostrils

  • Trauma defects

  • Narrow nose

What is Involved?

Rhinoplasty can involve sculpting of the nasal bones, repositioning and molding cartilage of the nasal tip. The width of the nose may be narrowed through skin incisions. Cartilage grafts may also be used to enhance the nose and ensure stability and function of the nose.

If incisions are made for rhinoplasty, they are strategically hidden in the shadows under the nose. When the nostrils are reduced in size, incisions are hidden in the creases around the nose so that they heal without a trace.

It takes about two weeks to recover from a rhinoplasty. By this time, swelling and bruising have largely resolved to be socially presentable. Swelling persists long after surgery. On average, 80% resolves after one month. 90% resolves after 9 to 12 months. Complete resolution of swelling may take 1-2 years.
