Nasal polyps can lead to various symptoms, including blocked nasal passages that impact breathing, mucous discharge, reduced sense of smell, facial pressure, sinus headaches, and sometimes bony changes to the nose or face.

Treatment of Nasal Polyps

Treatment aims to reduce the size of the polyps or eliminate them, while also managing the associated inflammation. Nasal polyps often respond to steroids and can be managed with nasal steroid rinses, sprays, or injections when small. If they grow and resist medical treatment, surgical removal through nasal polypectomy might be necessary. Initially, endoscopic sinus surgery is used to open the sinus cavities for better monitoring and management of recurrent polyps. If significant regrowth occurs, revision surgery including polypectomy may be required.

Additionally, new treatments like bi-weekly Dupilumab injections are available, especially beneficial for patients with severe asthma or other conditions who are not good candidates for surgery.
